The Seven Deadly Sins is mentioned many times in the bible. But the scenarios and examples of each of the sins are so dated it could be hard to interpret. I created this three dimensional project to more accurately represent the sin of gluttony.
Gluttony, as defined by the people of christianity, means the overindulgence or overconsumption of anything to the point of waste.
Back when latin was still a commonly used language, gluttony was broken down into five sub categories; laute, studiose, nimis, praepropere, and ardenter. The first, to eat too expensively, the next, to eat too daintily, to eat too much, to eat too soon, and lastly, to eat too eagerly.
Using imagery of a perfectly untouched hamburger on a trash bin, it alludes to the idea that Americans over consume food, more specifically, fast food. I then tied in those latin sub categories of gluttony and created a pattern to overlay the entirety of the image. I then screen printed the imagery onto the inside of fast food containers. I then reconstructed them so that it looks normal from the outside and then when you open it, you're faced with the facts of people's tendencies to over consume food.
