The Salem Witch Trials occurred more than 200 years ago. I've based my design on the horrors that happened during those times. I've also blended a bit of the taro card style by adding roman numerals and the top and bottom borders.
The ace cards refer to some of the first women who were hanged from the trials. The kings refer to the judges that made the final call in the death of these women. The queens represent the young adolescents that made false accusations of the older women who were innocent but payed the ultimate price. The jacks represent the men who tried their best to help the accused.
The back of all the cards represent the devil because it was said that the women who were seen as witches were seen in the woods at daybreak fraternizing with the devil. Hence why they were charged with being a witch.
